The LAST OFFICIAL EXHIBITION at a gallery Dunedin. From 5:30pm on
Thursday the 20th of September a  gallery presents ‘Le Chaise Du
Baise’ (The FUCKCHAIRS) latest exhibition. Le Chasise Du Baise last
exhibition/performance was at the High Street Project in Christchurch
on the 3rd of September 2010. Later that evening the space was
destroyed in Christchurch’s first major earthquake. Expect noise and
smoke as the dust refuses to settle . Echo’s of warzones, videogame
landscapes, beauty and destruction…

…Then at 7:30pm LAST DAYS closing Party FEATURING Le Chaise Du
Baise, Wolfskull, Bad Evil, The Vamps, The Un-Cut Blanks, Mr Sam
Ovens, The Illusive Mr Invisible and myself (Jay Hutchinson)

a gallery was always a two year project, and the exhibitions were
programed accordingly. From the first exhibition WE WILL ALL BURN IN
HELL to the FUCKCHAIRS (Le Chaise Du Baise) a gallery was conceived to
show Dunedin artists that I both I respected and admired. Also to
develop my own curatorial practise showcasing local artists that
otherwise would have nowhere else to show.  All projects have to come
to an end, I would like to thank all of those that have supported a
gallery over the past two years. I have accepted a position at the
Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt…possibly another project in the
works, most definitely a publication…thanks

In response to A Gallery’s other group show, Girlz, this all-male exhibition presents three voguish but incisive artists who are, over a three-week period, responding to their designated titles (draw, paint, and destroy).

In week one, Brisbane agitated the passivity of drawing with his moody collection of heavily worked, attitudinal portraits. Unframed and hugely expressive, the graphic renderings portray underground rogues donning tattoos, cigarettes and scars like rusty, hard-earned honours.

In week two, Ovens presented three triangular works which juxtapose graphic printed imagery with subverted icons on flamboyantly painted canvases. They are gutsy because they demonstrate not only intellectual alertness and a dissection of civic values but also the backbone to stridently declare malcontent. He conveys ideological irony while underscoring absurdity in his typically sardonic, but equally humorous style.

The final and much-awaited instalment of prints and spray-paint by Jones is to be revealed at the gallery tonight. Such a week-by-week structure compounds the conceptual dynamism of a display which is already politically loaded and culturally responsive, and while the exhibition is deliberately gender-biased, the overall communication thus far utterly derides archaic righteousness and mainstream masculinity.

a gallery presents DRAW PAINT DESTROY. Based around a conceptual framework of three artists installing their work over a three week period, with the first installment functioning as a solo exhibition with another artist being added each week as the exhibition evolves into a group show. Each of the artist’s involved will respond to their individual exhibition title (for example the first artist Danny Brisbane will respond to the his title DRAW, with the second artist Sam Ovens responding to his title PAINT…) The artists will also respond to the current exhibition GIRLZ a group show featuring Bekah Carran, Anya Sinclair, mi$$match and Willow McIsaac. DRAW PAINT DESTROY will feature Danny Brisbane, Sam Ovens and Harley Jones.
